Let Sleeping Dragons Lie

LET SLEEPING DRAGONS LIE

This episode takes place in Norway.  The opening scene shows a raven with evil looking eyes fly into what appears to be a cave with teeth, but as the bird enters the threshold it suddenly transforms into Ravendark; a Nordic necromancer.  Once inside the cave we learn that Skullmaster tempts Ravendark into releasing him from beneath the earth, and thereby releasing Ravendark from the curse of Odin, and would once more be able to live the cave without transforming into a bird of ill-repute.

Max has been sent to the shops by his mom, to pick up a few things, but Max is dismayed to find that the list is more than he first thought.  As he looks for the items he hears an announcement over the tannoy telling him to go to frozen foods.  When he gets there he discovers a portal in one of the frozen food cabinets and, with a deep breath, he jumps in.  On the other side of the Portal, which happens to be Norway, Max still has not learnt the subtle art of portal landings, and slides down the rocky path in what looks to be a very uncomfortable manner.  Looking up he sees Virgil and Norman who help him to his feet, whereupon Virgil tells him what is going on.  One of the things that he tells Max is that they need to climb a huge cliff to get to the cave they are looking for, much to Max's discomfort.

Once a the top they stand before a huge cave opening, and Norman starts calling into the cave, taunting the dragon.  Max turns to Virgil and asks him who Norman is talking to.  "The Dragon" replies Virgil.   "The dragon in the cave?"  asks Max.  "No," replies Virgil.  "The dragon is the cave!"   "The whole cave!" Max exclaims,  "I don't feel very mighty anymore!"  Norman then happens to mention that he once wrote a song about the dragon.  Max taunts him and asks, "What?  Puff the Magic Dragon?" and laughs.  Norman gives him a stern look.

Once inside the cave Norman finds two objects buried in what looks like a pile of treasure.  He triumphantly picks them up, announcing them to be the hammer and helm of Thor.  He places the helm on his head and states that it still fits.  Max asks incredulously if Norman is Thor to which Norman tells Max that he indeed served Odin before.  As they progress into the dragon-cave they meet Ravendark just as he's about to complete a spell which will awaken the dragon.  Norman immediately charges in but the necromancer is quicker, and a bolt of lightening zaps from his outstretched hand, knocking Norman almost senseless.  He gets up and charges a second time but is again blasted away by Ravendark, and this time he does not get up.  Suddenly a face appears in a lake of sulphur to Ravendark's right side, and an impatient voice is heard demanding of Ravendark what is going on.  Max and Virgil look at one another, both instantly recognising Skullmaster, who Ravendark believes to be Loki.  Max and Virgil approach Ravendark and try to tell him that Loki is not who he thinks he is, but they too are blasted away, ending up in a heap on the floor.

Ravendark completes the spell and the dragon awakes!  Max again tries to make Ravendark see reason, but he's having none of it.  Suddenly a ball of fire erupts, and is heading their way.  Norman and Virgil run, but because Max tries to speak to Ravendark he is too late leave the dragon in time.  Quickly he jumps into a treasure chest and closes the lid, whilst Ravendark performs a spell that surrounds him within a protective barrier.  The fireball passes over them both.  As Max emerges from the chest a second fireball is seen, and this time he grabs a metal shield, and using it like a sledge he makes good his escape from the dragon.  Ravendark too escapes via the mouth of the dragon, but immediately finds out that Max was right and that he had been duped by Skullmaster as he once more transforms into a bird.

Now that the dragon is awake it sets to freeing Skullmaster from his hellish prison by breaking open an earthquake fault line.  The team have to think fast.  Max convinces the bird Ravendark that he should exact revenge upon the one that tricked him, a suggestion that Ravendark agrees to.  Virgil has an idea and explains how they may be able to get back inside the dragon in order that Ravendark may undo the spell he has cast;  Norman will try to coax the dragon into a position where the entry portal is.  Max, Ravendark and Virgil are to go to the supermarket from which Max first arrived, and re-enter the portal.  Norman smiles and immediately starts taunting the dragon for a fight.  Meanwhile Max, Virgil, and Ravendark have arrived back at the store.  As soon as they walk through the door a young assistant tells Max that animals are not permitted, but Max tells him that these birds are his eyes, and that he needs them to be able to do his shopping.  Timing is crucial if Max and Ravendark are to enter the portal at the exact moment that the dragon is (hopefully) at the portals exit.  A short delay and the trio jump into the portal.  Norman had done what was expected of him and Max, Virgil, and Ravendark appear back inside the dragon.

Ravendark prepares to break the spell that has woken the dragon but max soon realises that the only way to stop the dragon is for Ravendark to give his own life.  Max disagrees, telling Ravendark that there must be some other way, but it is not to be.  "Go!" says Ravendark, and he casts a spell that whisks Max and Virgil off to safety, outside the dragon.  Ravendark pulls out a knife and takes his own life, and the dragon once more becomes nothing but a cave
