Mighty Max - Episode 4 - Day Of The Cyclops

DAY OF THE CYCLOPS

This episode takes place in Turkey. The opening scene shows a Turkish prison where an old man is sleeping. He wakes up to brush off a cockroach which is crawling on his face. A huge shadow falls over him and his eyes widen in terror. His screams are heard throughout the prison.

Max and his mom are on vacation in Turkey, where they meet up with Virgil and Norman. This is the first episode in which we see Max's mom; it's easy to see who Max takes after. Max is disgusted to see a stall on which US made baseball caps are on sale, after all he has come to Turkey to see some foreign things. Max picks up one of the baseball caps, a red one, to show Norman, but as he replaces it and walks off the stall owner sees Max's own cap and assumes that it has been stolen. He calls out for the police who arrive and demand to Max's passport; but he does not have it as it is with his mother who has wandered off with Virgil. The police try to arrest Max but Norman wades in a fills them all in. Suddenly the pair are surrounded by armed police and are taken away. When Max's mom finds out what has happened she wants to go and get max back, but Virgil tells her that finding the cap is more important, and besides, Norman will protect Max.

In a prison cell sit Max and Norman, minus his sword. As they sleep Max is woken by a huge hairy monster who grabs him to take him back to his lair, but Max's yells wake Norman who promptly lays into the Monster. However, Norman does not have his sword, and the monster is very strong. Max yells for the guards but when he turns around the monster has gone. Max tells the guards what just happened, but they laugh at him, telling him that his young flesh will make a nice meal for the Cyclops. Puzzled by the monster's apparent disappearance into thin air Max and Norman search for a hidden door, and with the help of some unappetizing green gruel, the find a secret passageway. As they follow a conveniently placed map, Max steps on a trigger stone and huge spikes start to emerge from the walls on either side of them, causing them to flee for their lives.

Having outrun the spikes, they both arrive before a huge door which stands in the mouth of a massive Cyclops mouth archway. The door is padlocked and Max remarks to Norman that it would have been handy if he still had his sword, and now they have nothing to pick the lock with. Norman looks at Max and gives him a sly grin. "I do!" he says. The next thing we see is Norman kicking the door in.

Within the chamber lays a skeleton of vast proportions, and as they approach they see it to be the skeleton of a giant Cyclops. Max climbs up to the eye and sees something that reflects his image. He reaches out and touches it only to find it is slimy. As he pulls his hand away a huge eye emerges causing Max to fall back into the arms of Norman. A tentacle reaches out and grabs him but luckily for Max he has a crossbow which he had discovered moments earlier. Max fires a bolt straight into the eye causing the eye to drop him, where he is once again caught by Norman. They both leave the room hoping they had seen the last of the eye, but just down the corridor it catches up with them, and grabs them both with more tentacles. It seems that they are doomed but max has a flash of inspiration. "Have you got a light?" he asks Norman. he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a jar of oil his mother had purchased that day and had given it to him for safekeeping. Norman grabs Max's arm and scrapes his metal bracelet along the stone wall. Sparks fly and set the oil alight which Max throws at the eye. The eye becomes a fireball and drops them both. Max and Norman climb up a through a trap door and emerge into the sunlit courtyard of the prison, just in time as they fire balls erupts up after them.

The prison chief approaches them and tells them that they are free to go, but suddenly there is a roar and they see the monster upon a wall. It leaps down toward Norman who catches and throws him into the tunnels below where the fire still rages.

Now that they are safe Max's mom rushes up to him and hugs him, relieved to see him safe and well. As they walk away she looks as Max's melted sneakers. "That's the third pair this month!" she exclaims.
