Mighty Max - Episode 3 - Snakes and Laddies

SNAKES AND LADDIES

Egypt: Venom, a mummified maniac attempts to wake up his god by sacrificing innocent souls. We see a young man tied up wearing a necklace. Moonlight shines onto the necklace, and the young man screams in pain. In this episode we do not see Virgil or Norman, though Virgil does lend a helping hand!

Max and his class-mates are on a school trip to a museum where they are asked by their teacher to pair up and produce some history based work. Max hopes to be teamed up with the new girl Jiffy, but his hopes are dashed when the teacher pairs him up with Bea, and Jiffy with Felix. "Oh no," worries Max. "What if Felix tells Jiffy something embarrassing about me!" Bea tells Max that if he mentions Jiffy one more time, she'll break his jaw. As they wander around museum Max hears Jiffy approaching and drags Bea into a sarcophagus so that they can hide, but he doesn't realise that there is a portal within. "Max, your cap!" shouts Bea, but it's too late.

They materialise in a vast corridor and quickly find out that they are in Egypt. A skeleton is chained up to a wall, frightening the pair of them, though Max blames Bea for trying to make him panic. In an attempt to show Bea how scared he isn't, Max approaches the skeleton and props himself up next to it. Suddenly the whole wall and floor tilts sending them both sliding into a lower corridor, at the end of which is a large door. On further investigation they arrive in a huge room where there are statues of snakes entwined around yet another snake. Hanging from one of the statues Max spies an amulet and takes it as a present for Jiffy. Suddenly they hear a menacing voice promising a slow death to anybody who usurps the Ankh of Power. Max and Bea are confronted by serpents in robes, but just manage to escape them out of the room. They are chased down the corridor when it seems to them that they are trapped. However, Virgil has obviously been here before, and knows what was to happen; there is a message and a portal right next to them. Max and Bea arrive back at the museum almost missing the school bus, and end up with a demerit each from their angry teacher.

Later, back at home, Max is in his room with Felix and Bea. He picks up the phone to call Jiffy, but puts it down again in case she is trying to call him. Impatience gets the better of him and he picks up the phone and calls Jiffy. Max is delighted when he realises that Jiffy is in need of his help; perhaps if he helps her she will go out with him. In company with Felix and Bea, Max rushes off to Jiffy's house to find that a portal has opened up outside her house, and hundreds of hooded serpents are sliding out of it. Max, Bea and Felix fight off the serpents who suddenly disappear as quickly as they had arrived. Max is overjoyed, but this soon turns to despair as he witnesses the serpents taking Jiffy captive back to their master.

The trio make their way back to the museum where a brief struggle with a security guard finds Felix arrested, and possibly on his way to reform school ("Don't worry," the guard reassures him. "Reform school is what you make of it.") Max and Bea steal the keys of the unsuspecting guard, but not before cleverly uses her bicycle padlock to keep him at bay.

Once back in Venom's lair Max bargains with him for the release of Bea, promising him the return of the Ankh of Power. Venom agrees but is outwitted when Bea kicks the Ankh toward Max as Venom releases her. Max, Bea, and Jiffy run off leaving an enraged Venom who calls upon his god for help. His god answers him by bringing to life a statue of a huge snake. Meanwhile Max apologises to Bea for having left her and she rushes up and hugs him, giving him a kiss; "So you really do care about me!" she says.

The huge snake chases them up on top of a pyramid where all seems lost as they once again become trapped. Max saves the day when he throws the Ankh of Power into the snakes mouth causing the giant serpent to explode!

The adventure ends when Jiffy tells Max off for all the study time she has missed out on, especially as she has a big test tomorrow, and more exams in several years time!
