THE AXEMAN COMETH This is the ninth episode of series 2. Two lumberjacks are felling trees to make a clearing in the huge forests of Scandinavia. One huge tree is cut down releasing a trapped demon that Norman & Virgil had imprisoned many years ago. The evil spirit searches for a key to release a mask that has been placed on its face to prevent it from reaching its full power. Episode Captures (Click to enlarge) Max is enjoying a day out at the movies with one of his best friends, Felix. They look at the adverts outside the cinema to see what's on: "I like to hit people" & "I like to kick people" seem to be the ones now showing, but hold on, what's this movie? Felix shows Max a poster on which Max himself is shown advertising a film called Portal. Max groans as he recognises this as another message from Virgil, and sees his childhood slipping away once more. Max arrives at the other end of the portal and is almost crushed by a huge falling tree, but escapes with his life thanks to the ever ready Norman. Max then informs Virgil that he was about to watch an exciting movie with lots of violence and people blowing things up. Virgil just looks at him in astonishment and brings him up to speed on real word current events. He tells Max about an evil demon (who Max hereafter calls "Lock Jaw") who attacked, along with a group of bandits Norman's Nordic village many years ago, but it was unable to defeat Norman. In a rage it roared and caused a landslide that all but destroyed the village. Realising the horror of this demon's power then bandits joined forces with the villagers and captured the demon, chaining him up in a boat. They also placed a mask on the face of "Lock Jaw" which prevented him from ever roaring again. Max's concentration is suddenly broken when Norman yells at them to get down, and as they do so a huge axe flashes past where their heads were a moment before. They look up to see "Lock Jaw" walking towards them, looking very mean, obviously after them to find out the location of the key that would free it's mask. Norman rushes toward "Lock Jaw" and a fight takes place, but "Lock Jaw" has the upper hand and causes a huge tree to fall onto Norman. "Lock Jaw" disappears leaving Max and Virgil rushing to Norman's aid. They now need to find "Lock Jaw" before he finds the key that will free him, but where do they look? A scream from some distance away tells them where "Lock Jaw" is. They rush onward and find a small log cabin in the forest. Norman gets there first and bursts in, and sees something that causes him to walk back outside and close the door. Max goes to make for the door but Norman tells him not to go in there as he would not like what he sees. Max complains stating that he has seen plenty of movies in which people get killed, but Virgil reminds Max that this is no movie. The trio move away from the cabin, but Max pauses to take one look back at the outside of the cabin, obviously disappointed that he did not get to see what was inside. It is not long before they find "Lock Jaw" again, and to their dismay he has found the key, and looks about ready to use it. The quick thinking Max picks up a board and rushes down toward the lake, surfing on it in an attempt to distract "Lock Jaw". It works! and Max holds the key up triumphantly. "Lock Jaw" is now extremely angry and launches his axe at Max. Max ducks and once more is lucky not to lose his head as the axe sails past. The axe imbeds itself into a dam made up of hundreds of logs, and to Max's horror the whole thing comes crashing down sending a huge tidal wave toward him. Max cannot get out of the way in time and is caught up in the wall of water. Moments later he emerges from the depths and quickly finds a log to clamber onto. The key still in his own hand! However, Max is still in danger as the enraged "Lock Jaw" moves toward him. This time Norman comes to the rescue of Max and tackles the demon once more, but to no avail, the creature is too strong for Norman. Max then has an idea and he rushes to help Norman. Max jumps onto the log that "Lock Jaw" is standing on and begins to run as hard as he can, causing the log to spin madly. With a jump he halts the log in its tracks and "Lock Jaw" is thrown off and into the water. Max jumps ashore and smiles in the belief that "Lock Jaw", who cannot swim, has drowned. His joy is short lived: Here come "Lock Jaw" again. The team run deeper into the forest, the key to the mask still firmly in Max's hand, but their way is soon thwarted by a huge chasm with a frozen lake in the bottom of it. They hear "Lock Jaw" getting ever closer, and Max looks around for a way over; and his eyes rest on a crane that has obviously been used by some of the tree fellers. He leaps into the cab, puts on a hard hat he finds (very sensible lad is Max) and begins pushing button and pulling levers. He eventually manages to get it working, and gives Norman and Virgil a lift over the chasm using the huge hook on the end of the crane's cable. But as they are halfway across "Lock Jaw" finds them and attacks the crane, pushing it toward the chasm. Max dashes out of the cab and onto the superstructure of the crane just as "Lock Jaw" pushes the machine over the edge, trapping himself in the process. The crane plummets to the bottom of the chasm, and smashes through the ice layer just coming to a rest in time to stop Max, Norman, and Virgil from joining "Lock Jaw" at the icy bottom. Believing that to be the end of "Lock Jaw" Max, Norman & Virgil begin to make tracks out of there, but they are stopped by a noise behind them. Max and Norman turn around to find "Lock Jaw" standing on the ice several feet away from the - and he has Virgil in his clutches. Max knows what "Lock Jaw" wants; the key. He offers the key in exchange for Virgil. He throws the key away from him, and "Lock Jaw" drops Virgil as he rushes to get the key. Virgil and Norman look on in dismay as "Lock Jaw" grabs the key. They look at Max not believing what he has done, but Max has a trick up his sleeve! "Lock Jaw" unlocks the mask from his face and throws it away. He turns to the trio and says, 'Now you will see my power!' He opens his mouth and roars as loud as he can. And this is where Max's plan falls into place: Just as it did before, "Lock Jaw's" roar cause a rockslide. Tons of huge rocks fall down the chasm and smash into "Lock Jaw", permanently burying him in a prison of ice and rock. Hurrah for Mighty Max! Virgil turns to Max and drones on about some nonsense, but Max doesn't hear it; he's listening to is music again! Copyright (c) 2005-2008 Myrm's Mighty Max. All rights reserved. |
