"Attack!" cries Virgil as he directs Skullmaster's armies against Max and Norman, both of whom feel anger and confusion as to why he's turned against them.  As Skullmaster approaches, Norman attacks sending Skullmaster spinning off amongst the rocks, but Virgil still directs the forces against them.  Even the Lava Lord, inside his invention, Magus, joins in the attack against Skullmaster, but Virgil directs Skullmaster to attack the huge robot behind its knee, which he states is its weakest point.  Warmonger and Skullmaster race toward the back of Magus on their rock disks.  At the last moment Warmonger leaps from his rock disk onto Skullmaster's.  Warmonger's disk hits Magus in the back of the knee with explosive power.  It has the desired effect and causes Magus to topple over, which in turn throws the Lava Lord out of the cockpit and down into a rubble of rocks below.  Max and Norman see their chance and leap into Magus.  Max randomly pushes buttons and pulls on levers to get Magus to stand.  With a stroke of luck Magus stands up and Max directs it toward Skullmaster.

Max tells Norman to man the missile system.  Norman looks at the bank of switches with a confused look, then walks over to the missiles, takes one, and throws it out of the missile opening.  The missile scores a direct hit on a fast approaching Rock Monster.  More and more rock monsters attack and eventually Magus is brought down by a landslide, caused by Virgil.  Norman is thrown clear from the wreckage, whilst Max is trapped inside.  Max sees danger coming his way as a huge rock is aimed at him.  He frantically pushes more buttons and succeeds in operating the lasers which blast the rock out of harms way.  He gets the Magus back on its feet and is told by Virgil to shoot out Skullmaster now!  Max is surprised once again; so Virgil's defecting to Skullmaster's side was just a plan to destroy Skullmaster.  Max sends Magus toward Skullmaster, not knowing that Warmonger has leapt onto the leg of the Magus and is climbing his way toward Max.  Suddenly Max hears a growling and turns to see that Warmonger is in the cockpit of Magus.  However, he has nothing to fear as Norman rushes in and tackles him.

Max concentrates on getting to Skullmaster.  He aims the .Magus lasers at him, has him in his sights and is about to press the button when he sees that Skullmaster has Virgil.  Virgil tells Max that he must shoot at Skullmaster now and so fulfil his destiny.  Max is confused; if he shoots at Skullmaster he will also kill Virgil.  Skullmaster tells Max that if he does not hand him his cap he will kill Virgil.  Max decides to disobey Virgil and tells Skullmaster that the exit portal is behind him, and that he is to jump when he tells him.  Max and Norman jump from Magus, and as they fall past, Skullmaster, still holding Virgil, and Warmonger leap after him.  Max's cap lights up, the portal is opened, and they all fall through it.

Back on the surface of the earth a portal opens and they all tumble onto the ground.  Skullmaster stands up and looks at the sun hardly believing that he is now free.  Norman sees his chance and runs for him, but suddenly the ground trembles as a huge earthquake hits.  A massive chasm appears in the ground and out of it climbs a huge red dragon.  Skullmaster laughs as he welcomes his faithful fire-breathing pet.  He and Warmonger climb onto its back, and with a cry of triumph the dragon flaps its huge wings and takes to the air, leaving Max looking up at it in dismay.

Virgil turns around on Max and angrily tells him that he has just released the greatest evil the world has ever known, and tells him that he had failed to do just as he had ordered despite his having promised to do so.  Max looks down gloomily, but then looks up in confusion as Virgil suddenly changes his tune and congratulates Max for having change the path of his destiny.  max looks up at Norman and says, "Have you any idea what he just said?".
