Bring Me the Head of Mighty Max

BRING ME THE HEAD OF MIGHTY MAX

In this episode we see Skullmaster who is fed up with constantly being thwarted by Max.  In desperation he turns to those whose souls he has trapped in his Crystal of Souls.  He uses his power over them to raise their soul-less bodies from the depths of the sea where they lay buried.  "Bring me the cap, and the head of the Mighty One - attached to his body or not!"

Max is enjoying a relaxing day on the beach with his friends Bea and Felix;  "A kid has to get away sometimes," he tells Bea.  However, Bea is not sure Max is being very truthful, she is sure he came here to ogle at the girls playing volleyball in their bikinis, not 6 feet away from him!  The peace and quiet is interrupted when a message arrives for Max.  As Max is reading the note from Virgil he is oblivious to the screams of panicking girls.  Bea and Felix try to attract his attention, and when they finally succeed Max looks up to see what they are pointing at.  A grey, long haired corpse, covered in barnacles, has just risen out of the ocean and is heading toward Max with out stretched arms, whispering, "Cap Bearer, Cap Bearer," over and over in a creepy voice.  Max glances back down at Virgil's message which tells him that there is a portal in the taco stand behind him.  He wastes no time in saying goodbye to Bea and Felix as he rushes off to the taco stand, with the dead guy close on his heels.  Felix tells Bea that he is pleased that he is not the one with the cap.

Having narrowly escaped the living dead, Max finds himself transported to a place full of snow.  Poor Max is only wearing his swimming shorts, but wise old Virgil must have known this was going to happen as Norman is standing beside him with a pile of Max's clothes ready and waiting for him, including a warm coat. The next stop is somewhere much warmer, and Max takes off his coat and just dumps it on the ground, leaving it there!  (how's he going to explain that to his mom?)  Virgil tells Max why the dead guys are after him;  he relates a tale of how there was once a city that was threatened with extinction by flooding from the sea.  The city had huge walls around it to protect it from the ocean, and this was more than adequate.  But Skullmaster, not yet trapped beneath the earth manages to convince the king of the city that if he and his people were to give up their souls into his Crystal, then their bodies would be able to follow their saved souls once the city walls collapsed, and to further convince them Skullmaster uses his dark powers to bring down the city walls.  As a result of this the panicking people do as Skullmaster asks, and transfer their souls into his Crystal.  Too late they realise they have been tricked! and now they are reluctantly at Skullmaster's beck and call.  The city walls collapse and everybody, save Skullmaster is killed.  Virgil continues the story by telling Max about the original Cap Bearer who gave his life in trapping Skullmaster in his present prison, deep in the bowels of the Earth.  Max is startled to hear that the original Cap Bearer and he share a very similar name.  Max knows that it is his destiny to be the Cap Bearer of today, but Virgil tells him that he is too young to face his true destiny just yet.  Max becomes angry at Virgil and turns to argue, but he sees more dead guys coming toward them.

They run and end up on a dockyard beside an old galleon style ship.  Yet another dead guy emerges from the sea in front of them and ambles towards Max.  Norman steps in to protect Max, but the dead guy is too tough for him and he literally picks Norman up and throws him aside.  Virgil sees his chance and runs at Max.  He grabs Max's cap, places it on his own head and runs off into a portal, leaving Max and Norman on their own.  The dead guy grabs Max by the throat, but after sniffing him he sees that Max no longer has the cap and drops him on the deck, and walks off to track down the cap.

Max and Norman follow the dead guy at a safe distance until he disappears up a huge mountain.  Norman and Max stand at the foot of the mountain and look up, and see many more dead guys climbing the mountain, all of them whispering, "Cap Bearer! Cap Bearer!".  Norman begins to climb up after them but quickly notices that Max is not with him.  He jumps back down to where Max is standing and asks him if he's afraid of heights.  Max stammers his embarrassment and tells Norman that it's not that he's afraid of heights, but wonders, "If there is another way up that does not involve the risk of falling?"  Moments later Norman is climbing the mountain again, this time with Max tied to him with a length of rope.

At the top of the mountain they see a plateau upon which they see Virgil standing with the Cap on his head.  Lightening flashes all around them, and Max works out that Virgil is trying to destroy the cap.  Hundreds of the dead guys are shuffling toward Virgil, but Max and Norman race to the rescue.  Whilst Norman batters them all Max grabs his cap from Virgil, formulating his own little plan inside his head.  As soon as the cap us on him the dead guys move toward him.  Max shouts to Norman for his sword which he throws to him.  Max deftly catches it and leaps over the side of the mountain.  The dead guys, like lemmings, follow him.  Virgil cries out in despair as he comes to terms with the fact that another Chosen One has died in his care.  But then they hear Max's voice.  They peer over the mountain edge and see Max hanging from the sword which is firmly wedged into the rock, below him a portal stands open, the dead guys having fallen through it.  Virgil points out that the portal leads to the bottom of the Marianis Trench, some 30,000 ft deep beneath the ocean. Max laughs as he thinks of how long it will take the dead guys to get out of that.

Meanwhile, deep in the bowels of the Earth, Skullmaster curses Max and swears that he will soon be his!
